Oak City cave is one of those lost beauties of the wilderness. Rumor has it that within a week of it's intial discovery some 30 + years ago that the cave was gutted of most of it's finer formations and over the years it has become a haven for the party makers and vandals that wish to leave their names on the walls. Now this cave is being used for educational purposes by the Utah Grottos. Beginners and scouts are led inside to see the extent of the damage and asked to understand why caves are sometimes gated. Rescue practices are conducted because of the minimal impact that can be caused by large groups of people. Survey practices/training sessions are also held in this cave. Graffiti clean up projects are undertaken here to learn various techniques that can be used in other caves suffering from the same fate as this one. As you will see in many places the graffiti is placed where removing it would cause more damage than just leaving it on. I put this album up to hopefully make it plain that there are some people who just don't care enough about our natural and beautiful resources to leave them as they are. The photos are a from a mix of different trips I've participated on, including a rescue practice and a survey training session. Others are beginner trips at different times of the year.
